Description
“I could always live in my art, but never in my life.” -Ingmar Bergman “Lose your mind and come to your senses.” -Fritz Perls Ministry of Affect [af-ekt, not uh-fekt] is a 70-minute-long collection of instrumental guitar tunes. The album title is both an allusion to the fictional institutions of Orwell's 1984 (i.e., The Ministry of Love, the Ministry of Peace, the Ministry of Plenty, or the Ministry of Truth; see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministries_of_Nineteen_Eighty-Four) and reference to mental health terminology for emotional disposition. A majority of the tunes were recorded over a year and a half, between August 2016 and February 2018, and a few of the tunes were recorded in 2012. Ministry of Affect is a fuzz-laced and pitch-bending reflection of one's fictional experience navigating mood-hijacking paranoia and it's contents reflect themes of mental health/wealth/illness/wellness. Sometimes the sound may be unsettling or even feel almost 'Orwellian' and at other times it may be hopeful or even cathartic. The album's surreal and blissful tension resembles the haunting tenor that saturates solitary explorations of non-bizarre delusions, ideas of reference, and neurotic speculations of a collective dystopian subconscious. 'Ministry of Affect' is recommended for fans of Roky Erickson, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Krzysztof Penderecki.
