Horchata (WAVES)

Description

Think of what we could do if you stopped acting crazy.

Horchata is warmth. I remember making this in my early days at University of Southern California. It was right after I moved out of the dorms and into a small 2 bedroom with my roommate Gyyps. It was during a really positive time when I could feel and understand the nature of life - and how its a never ending process of up and down. If I remember one thing from school, it's this one line from an economics book - "The economy operates through irrational waves of optimism and pessimism". This line hit me because I felt like it was metaphoric for how people move - how I myself move. So much of what we do and think is irrational. And just knowing that it's irrational, that awareness I think is special. It's sort of like, ok now you know the deal. Took me 20 years to figure that out.

This idea sort of shaped the whole next album to come, "This Shit Comes in Waves." And I think this track in particular is one of the main songs that captures the essence of that album. We play this song almost every show we play live. I'm currently on tour and I watch what this song does to people every night. It makes people with no rhythm move, it makes cold people soften up, and has the feeling of warmth I hope to bring forward with all of my sounds.

Horchata is also quite childish and innocent. The bars make me smile in nostalgia - I was so fresh faced to the world when I made it. Coming from the east coast, I wasn't used to the latin influence that brings life to Southern California. A lot of new tastes, new energies, people, rhythms. The ocean. I was absorbing it all. Horchata marks a great time in my life and is now what me and my touring homies call, a "cult classic" ;)

Thank you all for listening and supporting.
