"Chill out zone" is Populous' new EP, a sound journey that evokes the most psychedelic and meditative side of the 90s club culture. Published by his newly launched label, Latinambient, the EP's title pays homage to MTV's historic Chillout Zone late-night show, which featured a visionary selection of music videos spanning electronic, ambient, trip-hop, trance and similar music. The TV show drew inspiration from the chillout rooms that emerged across raves and within the club scene between the late 80s and the early 90s: spaces with a clear purpose, designed to help people relax both physically and mentally. Rooms where the body could rest while the mind remained stimulated in a different way. With the two EP tracks, Populous reworks and pays tribute to those years and that music scene, both of which were crucial to his own development. Fluid arpeggios and endless drones float over filtered, processed Latin percussion, once again expanding the concept of Latin ambient, the aesthetic and sonic manifesto of his label.
